One of Bali's most important sea temple the sanctuary at Tanah Lot is built a top a huge rock surrounded by the sea built by one of the last priest that come to Bali from Java in the 16 th century its an offering ritual to the guardian spirit of the sea. Poisonous sea snakes found at the base of the rocky island are believed sea to guard the temple from evil spirits and intruders.
